KLANG, MALAYSIA – It was a memorable day for all of us at Iskcon Klang when HH Jayapataka Swami came over to the eye-opening and abhishek ceremony of our Pada Yatra deities. It was his first trip to Malaysia after his illness in 2008. He is currently undergoing some treatment for his stroke in Kuala Lumpur.
He seemed very happy to be here with us. Addressing a packed crowd in the hall, he said Klang was very special to have his presence for the opening of the temple a couple of years back as well as for the eye-opening and abhishek of the Pada Yatra deities. Iskcon Klang had moved a couple of times from a floor in a four-storey building and now to a two floor double-storey building. He hoped we will get another floor to cater for the growing devotees here.
He was pleased with the rapid expansion in Krishna Consciousness in Malaysia. For a tiny country like Malaysia to have 27 temples or centers is remarkable. He also mentioned he may make Malaysia his base. He related the story of the meeting of Sri Nityananda and Mahaprabhu in the house of Nanda Acarya and conjured the crowd to participate in the calling of their names – Nityananda and Caitanya in succession. He coaxed more and more people to chant the Mahamantra “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare” everyday. He mentioned it will be more potent if one could chant near the Holy River, Tulasi or deities. Children above 12 years of age should be encouraged to chant a prescribed number of rounds everyday.
He then named the deities “Doyal Nitai Gaura Hari” and said these deities are very very merciful.
I recalled the song “Doyal Nityananda Caitanya” by Bhakti Vinod Thakur
doyal nitai chaitanya ‘bole’ nac re amar man,
nac re amar man, nac re amara man
emon doyal to nai he, mar kheye prema dey
(ore) aparadha dure jābe, pabe prema-dhan
o name aparadha-vicara to nai he
(takhon) krsna-name ruci ha’be, ghucibe bandhan
krsna-name anurag to ha’be he
(takhon) anayase saphal ha’be jivera jivan
krsna-rati vinā jivan to miche he
(ese) brindabane radha-syamer pa’be darasan
gaura-kripa ha’le he
O my mind, please dance while chanting the holy name “Doyal Nitai Caitanya!” O my mind, please dance! O my mind, please dance!
Such a merciful personality as Nityananda Prabhu is not to be found anywhere. He suffers a beating from Jagai and Madhai and still gives them the love of God. When your offenses are being vanquished, you will obtain the treasure of love of God. But in these names of Caitanya and Nitai there is no consideration of offenses. Once you have a taste for the holy name of Krishna, bondage to this world will come to an end.
When there is attachment to the holy name of Krishna, the life of a living being very easily becomes successful. Without affection for Krishna, life is simply useless. At the end of life, you will obtain the beautiful vision of Radha and Shyama in Vrindavana – but only when the mercy of Lord Gaura is first received.
Later he blessed us all with the “toothbrush” of Sri Jagannatha. How merciful the Lord is due to the blessings of a sadhu.
