Damodara in schools

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA (11/11/2008) – To this very moment, we haven’t got over the excitement we felt running the wonderful “Damodara in Schools” program. The support we received from schools as well as the devotees is unbelievable. Children were excited and the teachers’ support was simply amazing!

The charming faces of these eager young children wanting to hear the glories of Lord Damodar and the Significance of Deepavali was a delightful sight. In SJK(T) Castlefield, over three hundred children got really caught up in singing the “Hare Krishna Mahamantra” that almost all the students were up in front taking turns to sing the “Hare Krishna Mahamantra” in groups of five to ten. The whole hall room was filled with the sweet voices of the children singing the “Hare Krishna Mahamantra”.

The program took place for almost about 1 hour and 2 hours in some schools. The teachers were all friendly and in some schools the students were helping us to serve the prasadam at the end of the program.

We have received raving reviews and most of them want us to conduct similar programs in the following year. Some schools even invited us to conduct other festivals or to be an advisor of their Cultural Club. The enthusiasm and religious spirit we have shown has indeed caught on.

There had been unexpected difficulties faced by the devotees, yet the devotees somehow took up the challenge and managed the situation rather well. This is what we require from our congregation. Not merely an ordinary devotee, but as Srila Prabhupada wanted – an EXTRA ORDINARY devotee. Thank you again for your relentless support.

The latest update from us:

Number of schools where the program was conducted: 13 schools
Number of ghee lamps offered: 3,485 lamps

We have now reached 87% of the total target for schools. More schools are in line for tomorrow’s program. Tomorrow is the last day before the schools in Malaysia break for the holidays. The organizing committee wishes all of you wonderful program tomorrow.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitute to all devotees who were involved directly or indirectly to the success of this program so far. Thank-you all once again. We couldn’t have made it without you.

  1. Hare Krishna Prabhus and Matajis! Please accept my most humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

What a wonderful programme and initiative to celebrate the pastime and offer ghee lamps to Damodar in schools in Kuala Lumpur! It truly made my heart glow with love and admiration for you all who have made this programme possible and successful. It is a wonderful opportunity to share the message of Krishna with these eager, enthusiastic children – they will remember this for the rest of their lives and will become closer to Krishna because of it! It also is a great opportunity to share Krishna Consciousness with teachers and parents who will also become swept up in the excitement and it will pave the way for many more programmes to come. Well done all of you – surely Srila Prabhupada will continue to shower His Blessings and Mercy on you all as you progress in your journey ‘Back Home Back to Godhead’.

    Your humble aspiring servant,
    Janaki Devi Dasi
